Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze within the scope of EU funded Project - "EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight against Crime in Georgia (SAFE) - Integrated Border Management (SAFE IBM)", held an introductory meeting with the Senior Manager of Border Management Programs of International Organization for Migration (IOM) - Mr. Massimo Ramanzin.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs provided the representatives of International Organization for Migration (IOM) with information regarding activities and existing needs of the units operating in the direction of migration and border management.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze emphasized the activities of the newly established Border Management and Coordination Division within the Information - Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the priority directions and existing challenges, alongside with the importance of the activities of the International Organization for Migration IOM) in terms of strengthening the integrated border management and migration governance in Georgia.
In addition, the parties discussed the measures planned within the framework of existing cooperation and ongoing projects and agreed on the priority directions within the future partnership.
At the end of the meeting, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze thanked Massimo Ramanzin and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for their contribution to the development of the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs over the years.
The project has been implemented since 2019 in close cooperation with the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The project aims at the further enhancement of the capacities of Georgian authorities in the areas of integrated border management and migration governance guided by relevant agreements and action plans concluded between the EU and Georgia, especially in accordance to the with the Visa Liberalization Action Plan signed between the EU and Georgia.
